Years ago I learned an important lesson about voting. After a long day at work, I returned home exhausted. All I wanted to do was eat supper and relax. Then I remembered our municipality was holding an election for city council that day and the polls would be closing in about an hour. My husband urged me to skip the election this once. “It’s only a local election and it won’t make a difference anyway,” he said. I had never missed an election, national or local, since I had reached voting age, at that time 21. I put on my coat, drove to the polls, and cast my ballot for city councilor. The next day I was stunned when I learned she had won by one vote.
That’s how powerful one vote can be.
Our only chance of stopping the Trump administration’s atrocities and redirecting our country on a better course is to wrest control of the House and Senate from the Republicans, who continue to support Trump. In Maine that means voting for Troy Jackson for U.S. Senate and Chellie Pingree and Matt Dunlap for the U.S. House of Representatives. Senator Susan Collins has followed Donald Trump’s lead, voting a large majority of the time with her Republican colleagues to approve unsuitable personnel and actions that have had severe repercussions in Maine. If you believe she has done a good job for Maine in other ways and earlier times, then send her a thank you note for her service. AND VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRAT, TROY JACKSON.
Last year trillionaire Elon Musk spent millions in an effort to defeat the Democratic candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Wisconsin voters overwhelmingly elected the Democrat in a stunning rejection of Musk’s election schemes. Now Musk is attempting to sway the Maine election for U.S Senator, spending millions on Susan Colliins’s campaign. Let’s follow Wisconsin’s lead and show Musk, Trump, and the world that Mainers’ votes are not for sale.
